Rokkatei’s Art Village– Obihiro 4
As a big fan of Rokkatei’s cakes and desserts, of course I wouldn’t miss the Rokkatei’s Nakasatunai Art Village located at around 10 minutes from the Happiness Station. It has proven to be another pleasant surprise for us as we didn’t expect another “forest” style art museum after our visit Yoko Ono’s art exhibition at The Tokachi Millennium Forest.
There were all together 5 art galleries, 2 restaurants and 1 souvenir shop, all located in the middle of the forest.
The fact that it’s autumn had made the forest a little more romantic and deep. And it’s intriguing to walk through the forest to discover different wonders in the unique art pieces by the various Japanese artists.
Too bad we were in a hurry to go back to Obihiro. Our last mission was to eat our butadon before we headed back to Sapporo. So we didn’t have a chance to try any of the restaurants at the Art Village. Would love to spend at least half a day there if time allowed.
It’s hard not to be obsessed with the power and beauty of the forest in Hokkaido. Everywhere I go is forest. But even though it’s called “forest” it’s more of a well-designed landscape of trees. It’s so clean and tidy and sometimes with such well-paved and artistically designed paths that it’s nothing like the real forests in Malaysia or the rain forests in Cairns. I’ve really learned to love the forests in Hokkaido. Even the one in Maruyama, which is just 15-minute walk from my place, is already a good power spot for me.
Art and Forest. Never thought they would be related but in Hokkaido, they are a perfect match.
