Sakura Moon in Hokkaido

Here in Hokkaido the cherry blossom season is at its peak this week.  Although it seems that I will miss my night sakura in Hakodate this year, I found that some of the best cherry blossom viewing spots are right at my footsteps.  Apart from the famous sakura spot in Maruyama Park, I went to another highly praised café restaurant - the Sakura Moon Beer Restaurant in South Maruyama, Sapporo.

I passed by this restaurant a thousand times and never had the courage to go in as it looks like a haunted house, especially in the winter.  It is an old wooden house that looks like any other residential home in the area.  And it’s covered by trees, which turned out to be the most beautiful and big sakura tree I’ve seen in the vicinity.

They served a special sakura lunch menu for a limited period of time.  However, it’s only limited to the first 20 orders.  By the time me and my friend arrived, the sakura lunch was already sold out.  But the good thing was we managed to get the best sakura viewing table of the house.  I didn’t notice until I came home and found out it was clearly pointed out in the Hokkaido Walker magazine!  How lucky!

sakuramoon2.JPGThe atmosphere was cozy, relaxed and warm.  The restaurant is divided into 3 areas: the outdoor patio, ground floor and upper floor.

We ordered the “Power Lunch” and it was more like a Sunday brunch.  The bread was awesome – fresh, soft and with good texture.  The one thing I like about the restaurant is that it’s got lots of windows and glass ceilings.  The natural light made the food look more delicious.

Boy, it was a big lunch indeed. And I think I need to go to my power yoga class tonight to burn off some of the calorie I’ve saved up this afternoon.
